PBS and GI Film Festival announce at Newsmaker a partnership to bridge the military-civilian divide
Local PBS stations will host live events in 2019 that offer military-themed content from the GI Film Festival (GIFF) in a new partnership to build public understanding of the military experience and bridge the military-civilian divide, the two groups announced Thursday at a National Press Club Headliners Newsmaker event. Political and Economic Situation in Chile
The president of Chile addressed a luncheon of the National Press Club on the current economic and political situation in Chile. President Aylwin emphasized the political stability of Chile and the formation of the current democratic government. He also discussed the relationship of General Pinochet, the head of Chile's armed forces, to the Chilean president. Translation of President Aylwin's remarks delivered in Spanish was provided by an interpreter beside him on the podium. National Press Club member Stephen Gregory, publisher of the Epoch Times, will celebrate the opening of the newspaper's new Washington Bureau from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 1, in Suite 446 of the National Press Building. Club members are most welcome to attend. In addition to opening the new office, Epoch Times will expand its U.S. print editions in New York, D.C., Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco from once a week to five times a week. Don't stereotype voters, authors of book on populist coalition warn at Book Rap

The Young Members Team of the National Press Club will hold a day-long training session on Saturday, June 9, for young journalists to learn how to turn print pieces into video stories. The course will begin at 9 a.m. with a three-hour lecture on how to converting print to video for the Web, taught by Zach Toombs and Kate Grumke of Newsy. The cost of the class is $10.
