It's not too late to sign up for the Journalism Institute's 7th annual Golf Invitational tournament at the Country Club at Woodmore in Mitchellville, Md., Tuesday, Sept. 4. This great day of golf begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. Golfers should plan to arrive by 8:30 a.m. The cost is $125 for Club members, $150 for individual registration and $500 for a foursome registration. The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the Cosgrove Lounge. Members are encouraged to bring their friends. The 45th annual National Press Club Journalism Awards Dinner Thursday, Aug. 30, will recognize the best journalism in politics, consumer news and a variety of other categories. National Press Club honors former Denver Post editor with Press Freedom Award
The National Press Club Board of Governors announced Aug. 23 that Chuck Plunkett, a former editor at the Denver Post, will receive a 2018 John Aubuchon Press Freedom Award. In April of this year, Plunkett was responsible for producing a special six-page editorial section of the Denver Post that took the extraordinary step of criticizing the paper’s owners, a private equity company called Alden Global Capital. Naaman Seigel, 45-year Club member, dies at 94
Naaman Seigle, a former reporter, editor and economic researcher at the U.S. Department of Agriculture who for 45 years made the National Press Club an important part of his life, died on Aug. 5 in Georgetown University Hospital of respiratory and heart failure. He was 94 and had been hospitalized in July after suffering a fall in his apartment in Southwest D.C. Naaman, who preferred to be called Seigle because of his unusual first name, enjoyed the comradeship he found at the Club and its Reliable Source bar.
