As an Army officer in Afghanistan, Sean Parnell read Brad Thor's spy thriller Lions of Lucerne and thought, “if I can make it out of this country alive, I want to write a book just like this.” The book that resulted, Man of War: An Eric Steele Novel, was the subject of a National Press Club Headliner Book Rap on Sept. 13. Conflict in Former Yugoslavia
Cabinet Minister-at-Large Milentijevic spoke on the current political and social situation in the republics of the former Yugoslavia where nationalism has erupted into military conflict. Issues brought up in her remarks included the political position of the Yugoslavian government and the living conditions for Muslims and Croats in Serbian detention camps in Bosnia. She urged international diplomats to emphasize peace rather than military intervention, and urged that diplomatic efforts concentrate on forcing the two sides in the conflict to negotiate a settlement.

Members' photo exhibit on display through Friday
The National Press Club's 19th annual members' photo exhibit will be on display in the Club's 13th floor lobby through Friday, Sept. 28. The exhibit features 209 print photos and electronic images from 45 members, up from 147 total entries last year. National Press Club member John McCormick has just published his newest book in electronic format. "Blockchain Made Simple - a Non-Technical Explanation: Harvard Business Review says blockchain could reshape the economy." by John McCormick. $2.99 (ebook version). "The 40-page book skips most of the computer science and this is actually a good introduction for journalists," said McCormick, who has been a Club member for almost four decades.
