National Press Club wants to see your best news photos from 2018
The National Press Club’s journalism contest includes an award for excellence in news photography. The contest will recognize excellence for an individual news photo and the contest is limited to photos taken during 2018. Only one news photo should be submitted per entry and people are limited to three separate entries at most. The photo awards are intended to honor professional photojournalists who have produced outstanding work, either independently for news organizations or as employees of those news organizations. U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth, a veteran of the Iraq War, said it is becoming harder to find qualified recruits for the U.S. armed forces. Journalism Institute seminar to help reporters follow the money
Reporters who don't normally wade through campaign finance filings will get a crash course on what to look for during the 2020 elections at a workshop on Monday, March 18, sponsored by the National Press Club Journalism Institute. Young Members host 'speed mentoring' on Monday
The National Press Club Young Members Team will host a "speed mentoring" evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, March 18, in the Cosgrove Lounge. The event will give young members a chance to speak with reporters from the Associated Press, CQ Roll Call and other news outlets who will discuss best journalism practices and offer career advice. Small groups of young members will move from reporter to reporter, followed by a small networking reception. Admission is free to attend but space is limited. Reservations are required.

Salute to Congress Dinner
Members of Congress arose to deliver humorous remarks at the 49th annual congressional dinner sponsored by the National Press Club and the Washington Press Club Foundation. The annual dinner, which features self-mocking remarks by members of Congress to a gathering of the Washington press corps, is a fund raiser for journalism scholarship programs. Rep. Michel presented the Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting on Congress to Janet Hook, correspondent for Congressional Quarterly Weekly Report.
