Game night returns to the Truman Lounge, June 4
The National Press Club Events Team is bringing back game night. Get competitive at the Club with other members and guests as we play a variety of games in the Truman Lounge on Tuesday, June 4th. Enjoy a drink as you play a variety of board games (including a satirical '90s curiosity Outrageous Journalists, inspired by the O.J. Simpson trial), and old-school video games (from the Atari '80s to the Sony PlayStation '90s) hooked up to the lounge’s big screen. Bring your own games if you like. This event is free. Coast Guard public affairs director to address NPC's American Legion Post, May 29
Rear Adm. Melissa Bert, Director of Governmental and Public Affairs for the U.S. Coast Guard, will be guest speaker at a luncheon meeting of the National Press Club's American Legion Post 20 at noon on Wednesday, May 29, in the McClendon Room. The speaker portion of the meeting is open to all Club members. Bert is responsible for engagement with the media, Congress and inter-governmental entities. The Quality of American Mass Media
Author Michael Crichton, who has written books on dinosaurs, U.S.-Japan relations, and sexual harassment, spoke to a luncheon audience on the American mass media in the era of "junk-food journalism." He predicted that our current perception of "mass media" would disappear within the next decade, and focused on the problems of the current media which has been charged with fabricating images to accompany news stories and with dealing in trivialities. Membership meeting: President Fitzgerald Kodjak stresses NPC's strong finances, overall great results
National Press Club President Alison Fitzgerald Kodjak stressed the Club's “strong finances” at a General Membership Meeting held at the Club's Fourth Estate restaurant Friday, commending the Club’s overall results during the first three months of 2019. “That is really great news,” she said, adding the Club is continuing the process of implementing the physical plan to upgrade facilities as well as attracting new members, some of whom are recognized leaders in journalism nationwide.
