Journalism Institute's March 17 program on frivolous lawsuits postponed
The National Press Club Journalism Institute has postponed its Sunshine Week program that was scheduled for Tuesday, March 17. The panel discussion on frivolous lawsuits and their impact on journalism in the public interest will be rescheduled. Enter your best news photos from 2019 in Club's annual journalism contest
The National Press Club wants to recognize your exceptional news photography in its annual journalism contest. The contest includes an award for excellence in an individual news photo. Photos taken during 2019 will be considered. Only one news photo should be submitted per entry and people are limited to three separate entries at most. The photo awards are intended to honor professional photojournalists who have produced outstanding work, either independently for news organizations or as employees of those news organizations. American Legion Post's March 25 meeting with head of Eisenhower Commission postponed
The National Press Club's American Legion Post 20 has postponed its meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, at noon in the McClendon Room due to coronavirus health concerns. The scheduled guest speaker was retired Air Force Brigadier General Carl Reddel, executive director of the Eisenhower Memorial Commission. Reddel will be invited to speak when the meeting is rescheduled. All Club members are invited to the speaker portion of Post 20 meetings. The Dwight D. Due to elevated concerns about the spread of the coronavirus and for the safety and security of National Press Club members, guests and staff, the Jazz & Journalism event commemorating jazz trumpet legend Chet Baker scheduled for Thursday, March 19, has been postponed. Books & Brunch has canceled its March 21 meeting to adhere to the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for social distancing during the coronavirus outbreak. This change in scheduling will shift the discussion of "Olive Again" to April 18 and the discussion of "The Library Book" to May 16. The group meets at noon in the Fourth Estate restaurants. Club seeks funny writing for $750 award
If you have a gift for funny writing, the National Press Club wants to see your work. The Angele Gingras Humor Award is aimed at those with a talent for humorous writing for newspapers and news websites. The award is named for a longtime Club member who had a talent for humor writing.
