43rd Annual National Press Club Journalism Awards The National Press Club's 43rd Annual Journalism Awards Dinner will be held on Thursday, August 4th, beginning with a Reception in the Holeman Lounge at 6 p.m., followed by Dinner and a Program at 7 p.m. in the Ballroom. NPC Luncheon with NTSB Chair Christopher Hart
National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Christopher Hart will address the role of automation in preventing transportation accidents and will apply lessons learned in aviation to the development of self-driving cars at a National Press Club luncheon June 30. Hart will talk about new technology in transportation with special emphasis on self-driving cars and how lessons from past investigation experience can help to prevent accidents. United Nations Issues
Secretary-General Annan, the seventh Secretary-General and the first from sub-Saharan African, spoke about United Nations changes and its relationship to the United States. He outlined the three main items on his reform agenda, managerial reform and better internal oversight, simplification of organizational structures and the end of duplicative programs sponsored by member states. He also stressed the relevance of U.N. activities to U.S. citizens' daily lives. After his remarks, he took questions from the audience.
