Dan Rather to swear in Club President Lisa Matthews at inaugural gala, Jan. 30
Lisa Nicole Matthews will be inaugurated as the 114th president of the National Press Club tomorrow, Saturday, Jan. 30, in a virtual gala at 4:30 p.m.. Legendary CBS news anchor Dan Rather will officially swear in Matthews from a remote location. Tickets cost $20 for Club members and $25 for the general public and are now on sale online. The National Press Club closed 2020 by presenting a 'radio play' version of the classic story "It's a Wonderful Life" on New Year's Eve. U.S. Military Overseas Basing
Al Cornella, chairman of the Commission on Review of Overseas Military Facility Structure of the United States, talked about the release the 2005 report on overseas basing. The commission was established in 2004 to provide Congress and the president with a thorough study and review of matters relating to U.S. military facility structure overseas. Participants talked about the tasks of the commission, process of review, and likely recommendations contained in the report. Following their remarks they answered questions from the audience.
