Actor Perspective
Mr. Stewart talked about acting, the theater and the "contract" between actors and audience, and shared some of his experiences. He is a Shakespearian actor and performed a few excerpts. He also is well known for his portrayal of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the television series, "Star Trek: The Next Generation." Following his prepared remarks, Mr. Stewart answered questions from the audience.

The National Press Club's Legends of Broadcasting series continues with a dinner conversation with Barbara and John Cochran on Tuesday, May 15. The couple will share stories from their long and successful careers in journalism, as well as their views on the ever-changing media landscape and the various challenges faced by journalism students and professionals today. Gun Control
Wayne LaPierre and Rep. Charles Schumer debated the merits of gun control. Rep. Schumer argued the case for gun control and Mr. LaPierre argued against. Topics included the Brady Bill, the Assault Weapons Ban, and counter-interpretations of the Second Amendment to the Constitution. Rep. Schumer has been a longtime critic of Mr. LaPierre's organization, the National Rifle Association. Following the debate, the participants took questions from the audience.

2018 Silver Owls Spring Hoot
Tom Toles, the Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist for the Washington Post, will headline the Silver Owls’ Spring Hoot at 6 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 26, in the National Press Club Ballroom. He also will sing and play the drums with his rock band, the Suspicious Package. This will be his and the band’s second appearance at a Hoot. The last time, in 2015, was a sellout, so early reservations are recommended. The Hoot is open to all Press Club members and their guests.
