Social Promotion
Ms. Feldman spoke about the practice of social promotion, in which students are promoted even though they do not meet their grade level standards so they are not embarrassed and separated from their peers. She pointed to different programs in place around the country that try and prevent retention of students by giving extra help to students at risk of being held back. Following her prepared remarks, Ms. Feldman took questions from the audience.
