Last October, freelance writer Skip Kaltenheuser visited roadside attractions and national parks in China, some not far from Wuhan, when clear sunny days instead of the usual urban haze brought crowds on holiday visits. Kaltenheuser captured photos of those crowded outdoor venues, with everyone unaware that in a few weeks Wuhan would become synonymous with the global COVID-19 pandemic.
