New Club president Mike Balsamo to take gavel at today's general membership meeting
Incoming National Press Club President Mike Balsamo takes the gavel at the next general membership meeting, scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, in the Conference Rooms. There will not be a livestream. Hors d'oeuvres will be served in the Truman Lounge after the meeting. Each meeting attendee also will receive a complimentary drink ticket. Arrests of Journalists in U.S. Surged in 2024

Rowse began his journalism career at the age of 10 in Lexington, Mass., serving as a reporter, editor and publisher of his own weekly newspaper, Naborhood News from 1930-1934. He continued writing for newspapers throughout high school and college, interrupting his senior year to enlist in World War II from 1942-45. His only brother died at 19, during the last days of the war. After the war, Rowse obtained an MBA from Harvard and from 1949-52 was editor and publisher of The Beacon, a weekly newspaper serving Maynard, Mass., and nearby towns. Journalist, author and longtime National Press Club member Arthur E. (Ted) Rowse, died Jan. 6 at the age of 104 -- a few months shy of his 105th birthday. He won numerous Club awards for excellence in consumer reporting through his business, Consumer News Inc. In 1997, he established the Club’s Arthur E. Rowse Award for Excellence in Examining the News Media.
