The National Press Club is deeply saddened by the passing of Frank Aukofer, our 1978 president and a beloved member of our community for more than five decades. A proud son of Milwaukee and longtime Washington bureau chief of the Milwaukee Journal, Frank was one of the most respected regional reporters ever to cover the nation’s capital. He brought to his reporting the same calm, principled approach that defined his leadership at the Club. Frank A. Aukofer, who parlayed an apprenticeship in the printing trade into a 40-year career as an award-winning newspaper reporter in Washington and Milwaukee, has died. Frank A. Aukofer He passed away peacefully on the morning of July 14 surrounded by friends and family at his residence at Goodwin House in Falls Church, Virginia. He was 90.
