Publishing expert says audio books biggest trend
Jane Friedman, one of the premier book publishing experts in the United States, told the National Press Club’s informal independent authors group last week that audio books are the trend today in book publishing. Friedman made brief comments saying eBooks and Amazon revolutionized book publishing in the last decade and then opened the floor to questions from Club members for more than an hour. The National Press Club will hold a moment of silence in observance of the first anniversary of the murder of Saudi journalist and Washington Post Global Opinions contributing columnist Jamal Khashoggi on Wednesday, Oct. 2, at 10 a.m. Khashoggi, who was openly critical of Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in his columns for The Washington Post, was ambushed by 15 Saudi government officials inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul and killed on Oct. 2, 2018. Among the topics he addressed were the Patriot Act, the detention of Arab men following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and the situation of detainees in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Prohibition began in Washington, Woman's Suffrage was won, and women - barred from the all-male National Press Club - formed their own Women’s National Press Club. The Club was even graced by royalty in 1919 when Edward, the Prince of Wales, made an appearance.
