The National Press Club will be open on Friday, which is a federal holiday, Veterans Day, but closed the Friday after Thanksgiving, Nov. 24, in addition to Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 23. The VA has processed a record-breaking number of claims throughout 2023, granting $163 billion to veterans and their families, Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough told a National Press Club luncheon on Monday.

Speaking at the event, NPC President Eileen O' Reilly said that the club represents a "place where we can all meet together and get to know each other on an informal basis," which has the added benefit of aiding journalists with helpful background, context and contacts for their reporting. Visiting embassy staff also toured the Club's facilities and were invited to join. The event builds on the ICC's regular receptions held in collaboration with embassies in Washington.
Recent events have included evenings at the embassies or residences of Rwanda, Guatemala, Pakistan, the Philippines, Norway, Haiti, Rwanda and Uzbekistan. The ICC's next event, with the embassy of Austria, will take place on Nov. 16. In addition to the embassy evenings, the ICC regularly hosts events including happy hours, conferences, and film screenings, and produces multimedia content on foreign affairs topics.
