John Sperling, Samuel George and Suzanne Helburn spoke about their new book, The Great Divide: Retro vs. Metro America. The authors, along with Democratic political pollster Celinda Lake, discussed what they see as a great divide in American politics. They defined "Retro" America as the South, Midwest, and Rocky Mountain States and "Metro" America as the East Coast, West Coast, and Great Lake States. They proposed a plan to stengthen the Democratic party in order to regain and maintain control of Washington. After the discussion, the panelists answered questions from the audience.

Secretary of the U.S. Army Ryan McCarthy will deliver an address at a National Press Club Headliners Luncheon on Friday, February 14. A former combat veteran and Lockheed Martin executive, McCarthy was sworn in to office as the 24th secretary of the Army on September 30, 2019. Prior to his current appointment, he had served since 2017 as the Under Secretary of the Army.
