Club to display local student journalist photos in December
The National Press Club will display outstanding photojournalism from area high school students in its main lobby from Dec. 4 to Dec. 8. The 24th annual celebration of visual storytelling is an exhibit, not a contest. No judges evaluate participants' work, nor are any prizes awarded. Club members can enter up to four digital images and two print photos for the show. Digital images are displayed on big screen monitors in continuous slideshows, along with print photos mounted on fabric display panels, starting Aug. 31. An online exhibit catalog presents images and photos entered by each participant.
This year, we're honoring Ukrainian news photographer Maks Levin, captured and reportedly executed by Russian troops last March. The exhibit ends Friday, Sept. 29. The response so far, both in numbers and image quality, is astounding. For example, the collection this year has photos of Jan. 6, 2021 and its aftermath never seen before, shot by Capitol Hill resident Celeste McCall. Plus, Ben Sarao shows us moving images from the 20th anniversary of 9/11 in New York, and Noel-Marie Fletcher displays mesmerizing abstract image art in photos of everyday scenes. Freelancer Team Meeting
The National Press Club freelancers' group is an opportunity for members to go-it alone, together. Ashley Merryman will be giving a presentation about stress—understanding the science of it and how to better manage it. Ashley has studied this topic, written about it in books and in top-tier news outlets, and has given invited talks on the subject. At this meeting, she'll share her insights with us.
