Fernanda Durand is a former journalist and communicator with decades of experience in advocacy communications. She currently serves as the Director of Public Affairs of Science is US, a campaign out of the American Association for the Advancement of Science that works with state organizations to uplift the role of evidence-based research and STEM in state governments. Fernanda graduated from the London School of Economics and Political Science, receiving her Master’s in Communication and Development. She is originally from Argentina and grew up in Texas.

Louis Laurence is an investigative researcher for TobaccoTactics.org, part of the Tobacco Control Research Group at the University of Bath, within the Stopping Tobacco Organisations and Products (STOP) partnership. Tobacco Tactics is a website and resource that investigates the strategies and tactics the tobacco industry uses to undermine public health. Prior to tobacco control, Louis spent four years as a research scientist in infectious disease, microbiology and pharmacology. Since April 2020 he has lead investigations in to the tobacco industry response to COVID-19.

Marino de Medici, 89
Marino de Medici, long-time correspondent for Italy's Il Tempo Newspapers and dean of Washington's foreign press corps, died Nov. 15 at his home in Winchester, Virginia. He was 89. He was a member of the National Press Club for nearly 52 years and was a frequent diner at the Reliable Source restaurant. The cause of death was cancer, his wife Nicki Furlan de Medici told The Washington Post. According to the Post, he came to the U.S. in 1954 as a Fulbright scholar while working for the Il Messaggero newspaper, got his bachelor's and master's degrees in the U.S., and returned to Italy to work…

Tuesday Newsmaker with Pakistani ambassador postponed
A National Press Club Newsmaker.with Masood Khan, Pakistani ambassador to the U.S. that was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 29, has been postponed. No new date has been announced. Kahn was to have discussed the ongoing reconstruction from the flooding that hit the country earlier this year. The country has been hit with devastating floods, which covered more than one-third of Pakistan and killed almost 1,700 people. The floods haven been blamed on climate change, most notably excessive rains as Indian Ocean temperatures rise and rapid, early melting of the mountain snowcaps.

Voting open for Club elections
Online voting for 2023 officers and board members began Monday in the National Press Club election. The balloting will conclude at 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9.
