The National Press Club is hosting the second annual Run for Austin Virtual 5K on Saturday, Nov. 12, to raise awareness and public support for journalist Austin Tice, who has been unjustly detained in Syria since 2012. Denis R. McDonough, secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, addressed a Nov. 7 Press Club luncheon on the topic of the impact of the Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act, signed by President Biden in August, that expands medical benefits to veterans exposed to toxins from burn pits on military bases.
