Historic vote to admit women to Club is topic of Fall Hoot Sept. 16
The 50th anniversary of the National Press Club's vote to admit women will highlighted Friday, Sept. 16, at the Owls' Fall Hoot. The event begins at 6 p.m. in the Holeman Lounge and Ballroom. Tickets are $35 and can be reserved here for a three-course dinner, preceded by a reception with cash bar. Hoots are open to all members and their guests. The 50th anniversary milestone actually occurred last year, but couldn't be observed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Washington usually shuts down for August. Not the Reliable Source.
While the president and Congress flee Washington during August, the National Press Club's Reliable Source restaurant remains open for lunch weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Menu items include salmon, New York steak, burgers, salads and crab cakes. To view the menu, click here. Dinner will be served from 4:30-8 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays. Exercise in air-conditioned comfort in the Club's gym
You know the Press Club offers you working space and weekday lunch service plus dinner service on Thursdays and Fridays. Don't forget it also offers a gym with locker rooms and showers, open five days a week. Fitness center hours are 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is no professional trainer staffing the facility, so it is unattended. A year ago, a Peloton bike was added to the first-rate equipment in the 14th-floor center.

Reception for members' photo exhibit to be held Sept. 7
A reception for the National Press Club's 23rd annual members photography exhibit is scheduled from 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 7, in the First Amendment Lounge. The reception will feature many of the photographers whose work will be displayed at the Club during the month of September. The event is free, but RSVPs are recommended. National Press Club President Jen Judson today announced the winners of the prestigious National Press Club Journalism Awards. The investigative powerhouse ProPublica won one award for consumer journalism and helped two other organizations win prizes in the National Press Club journalism contest. PBS/Frontline won two awards - including an Arthur Rowse award for coverage of Filipino journalist Maria Ressa and her staff in the run-up to an election in the Philippines.
