Leaders from the several good-government and advocacy groups will review state-by-state election law changes set to take effect in 2022 at a National Press Club Headliners panel at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13. The panel had been scheduled previously for 10 a.m., but will now be held virtually at 2 p.m. due to the current pandemic situation. Diana Philip, chief of staff of the Democracy Initiative, has been added to the panel, replacing Charly Carter, executive director of the organization, a coalition of 75 civil rights and social justice groups. The National Press Club will be closed Monday, Jan. 17, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Did you know? In January 2016, a historic plaque was placed at the entrance to the Club Ballroom commemorating the July 19, 1962, speech King made at the Club. Read about that speech here.

Judson takes Club gavel, sets April inauguration
Jen Judson took the gavel last week as the 115th president of the National Press Club but set an April inauguration as the Club continues to deal with challenges related to the coronavirus pandemic. Judson, a reporter for Defense News, is postponing her swearing-in to ensure that it can be an in-person event at what likely will be a safer time, rather than a virtual program in the next couple weeks.
