Press Leaders Outraged Over U.S. Reporter’s Sentence in Myanmar
WASHINGTON, Nov. 12, 2021—U.S. press leaders expressed indignation Friday over news that Danny Fenster, an American journalist working in Myanmar, had been sentenced to 11 years in prison on unfounded charges. Fenster, who is from Michigan, is the managing editor of Frontier Myanmar, an online magazine. He was sentenced to jail by a court in Myanmar on Friday purportedly for spreading false or inflammatory information, contacting illegal organizations, and violating visa regulations. National Press Club President Lisa Matthews will recognize journalist and communicator members for outstanding service to the Club at the Vivian Awards ceremony on Wednesday, December 15 at 6:30 p.m. The presentation will take place at the National Press Club in the Holeman Lounge and is open to those Club members who are actively involved with one of the Club's 14 teams.
