Darlene Shields, a popular and valued member of the National Press Club, died on Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, due to injuries sustained from a fall after she apparently suffered a heart attack. During a varied career, Shields worked as a human resources specialist for the General Services Administration, a high school business teacher, a travel adviser and a freelance photographer. Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough will speak at a National Press Club Headliners luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 9. The event will be held in person. NPC Elections postponed to Friday, Dec. 10
The annual Club elections have been postponed one day, to Friday, Dec. 10, and the deadline for petitioning to run for office has been extended to Monday, Nov. 8. The change in the Election Day schedule was made by the Board of Governors to continue the decades-long tradition of gathering in the Reliable Source on Taco Night, hear the election results and toast the newly elected president and Club leadership. Club names winner of Feldman fellowship
Isidoro Rodriguez of Brooklyn is this year's recipient of the National Press Club's Shirley & Dennis Feldman Fellowship. The award for graduate students is a one-time scholarship of $5,000.
