Today, Friday, Aug. 13, is the last day to enter your best images in the 22nd National Press Club members photo exhibit. The annual celebration of visual story telling returns this year to the Club's main lobby, with print photos and electronic images displayed for the month of September. Members may enter up to four electronic images and two print photos in the exhibit. The entry forms for electronic images can be found online here. The Freedom Clock tracking the captivity of award-winning journalist Austin Tice digitally struck nine years at noon on Saturday. The National Press Club Communicators’ Team invites Club members – both communicators and journalists – to its next Senior Professional Communicator and Journalist Roundtable Dinner on Wednesday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m. in the NPC's Fourth Estate Winners Room. For the past year, the team has conducted these quarterly events virtually without the meal, but now is returning to in-person dinners as the Club is open for such events again. Wes Vernon, NPC Golden Owl, dies at 89
Wes Vernon, a pioneer in American radio news and proud National Press Club member for 53 years making him a Golden Owl, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 8, due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He was 89 years old. Earlier this year, Vernon’s family established the Wes Vernon Broadcast Scholarship through the National Press Club Journalism Institute to both honor his prolific career and to remove educational barriers for students from backgrounds underrepresented in broadcast journalism. “It’s so meaningful for my family to preserve his legacy in this way,” said his daughter Diane Powell…
