Former NPC Governor Ed Prina dies; Visitation Monday evening
Former NPC Governor L. Edgar "Ed" Prina, 94, a prize-winning journalist and a Navy veteran of two wars, died May 14 in Washington, D.C. Prina, a Golden Owl who joined the Club on Dec. 1, 1948, served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean War, retiring as a captain in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He held two degrees from Syracuse University and worked for the Copley News Service, where he covered the Pentagon. Meat Lovers' Dinner on Tap for May 21
A multi-course dinner with certified Angus beef dinner and paired wines from Rodney Strong is on tap at the Fourth Estate restaurant on Tuesday, May 21. The first NPC 5K Committee meeting of 2013 takes place tonight, 6:30 pm, May 20, in the McClendon Room. We encourage members to get involved with this event. Washington Post Magazine's "Second Glance" Creator to Address Photo Committee
Randy Mays, whose feature "Second Glance" appears every Sunday in the Washington Post Magazine, will speak to the Photography Committee at noon, Wednesday, May 29, in the McClendon Room. All Club members and their guests are welcome. No reservations are required. Randy has titled his talk "Puzzling Illusions." Using examples drawn from past editions of "Second Glance," he will discuss why he changes the things he does and how he does it. Please grab your camera and take some stunning shots that will impress your family, friends, colleagues, and Club visitors and enter them in the 14th Annual NPC Members' Photography Exhibition. This Week in National Press Club History
May 21, 1985: After 33 months of reconstruction, a dedication ceremony for the completely renovated National Press Building is celebrated, nearly six decades after the original building cornerstone was laid in 1926. Two time capsules full of Club momentoes are placed behind a new cornerstone next to the old one, and both are encased in the lobby wall next to the building’s main entrance on 14th Street NW. Did You Know? Free Parking Available When Members Dine at the Club
All members of the National Press Club receive complimentary evening and weekend parking at the PMI garage on G Street when they dine at the Reliable Source or Fourth Estate restaurants. Members who are using any of the other Club facilities at night or on Saturday can purchase a discounted parking sticker for $5 at the front desk. Complimentary and discounted parking is available starting at 5pm on weekdays and all day Saturday. The parking sticker will not be valid if you park any time before 5pm on weekdays. Press Club Softball Team Sweeps Another Doubleheader
The National Press Club softball team enters the Memorial Day weekend with a 7-1 record at the halfway point of the Metropolitan Media Softball League season after beating C-SPAN, 13-1, and Bloomberg, 21-9. In game one, Jim Seminara went 4 for 4 with two triples and two homers, while Mike Young and Jim Rubin each added three hits. Erika Sikes, making her 2013 debut, also had two hits and two runs in the game.
