Freelance Committee Launches Searchable Listing of Members
Editors looking for freelance help now have a new resource at the National Press Club –- a listing of NPC member freelancers. The searchable list on the Club’s website is available to Club members and the general public here. The NPC Freelance Committee compiled the list as a way to help connect editors with freelance needs to freelancers with the right skills, says Tam Harbert, chair of the Freelance Committee. “As the number of freelancers increases and as more and more media outlets use freelance rather than full-time help, we hope this list will be a useful resource for both,” she says.…

Club softball team fall short in media league title game
The National Press Club softball team fell just short of its first-ever Metropolitan Media Softball League title, losing to Comcast Sports Net, 8-3, in the championship game on Saturday, July 13. It's the second straight league title for Comcast Sports Net. For the Club, it was the endof the most successful season in more than 20 years of league play. The day began with the Club losing a one-run game to Comcast to fall into the finals of the loser's bracket. Benghazi critic to address Club's American Legion Post 20, noon July 18
Lt. Gen. William Boykin (retired), former U.S. deputy under secretary of defense for intelligence, will address the National Press Club American Legion Post 20 at noon Thursday, July 18, in the McClendon Room. Boykin has been a critic of the Obama administration's handling of the Benghazi affair and will discuss that issue beginning at 12:15 p.m. The speaker portion of Post meetings are open to all Club members on a space-available basis. Rob Paulsen, the voice of Yakko Warner and Pinky, the mouse who wants to take over the world, will speak at the National Press Club at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 1 at an event sponsored by the Young Members Committee. Paulsen will discuss his career and experiences, answer audience questions and sign autographs. AFP presents Pulitizer-winning photo to Club
Mladen Antonov, director of photography for Agence France-Presse North America, presented to the National Press Club on July 10 the 2013 Pulitzer Prize winning photograph taken by Javier Manzano, an AFP freelancer. During a lunch meeting with members of the Club's Photo Committee, Antonov gave the shot to Club President Angela Greiling Keane. It will hang with other Pulitzer photos that adorn the Club’s halls. The National Press Club Beat the Deadline 5K Committee is looking for volunteers to help on race day, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7. All volunteers will receive a commemorative t-shirt and entrance to the post-race pancake breakfast. The 5K Committee will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 16. All Club members are invited to attend.
