The National Press Club will hold an advance screening of the PBS landmark series, Latino Americans: The 500-Year Legacy That Shaped A Nation, with companion book signing by PBS NewsHour Senior Correspondent Ray Suarez. Memorial service for NPC member Chris Battle set for Aug. 23 in Alexandria
A memorial service for National Press Club member Chris Battle will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23 at Grace Episcopal Church, 3601 Russell Road, Alexandria, Va. Battle, a public relations innovator, former newspaper editorial writer, and an accomplished political spokesman, died Aug. 8 after a four-year fight against kidney cancer. He was 45. He is survived by his parents, his wife, Dena, and two children, Kate and Josie. Lewis and Young join "Kalb Report" on March on Washington
Civil rights leaders Rep. John Lewis of Georgia and former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young have been added to the panel for the Aug. 27 “Kalb Report” to talk about the 1963 March on Washington and the significance of Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. Lewis also spoke during the march, and Young was an assistant to King. They join the already scheduled panel members, civil rights leader Julian Bond, PBS NewsHour anchor Gwen Ifill, Morehouse College President Dr. John Wilson and Dorothy Gilliam, the first African-American woman reporter for the Washington Post. Press Club members invited to Helen Thomas memorial Oct. 5 at NPC
The family of Helen Thomas has invited members of the National Press Club to a memorial service for Helen on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 11 a.m. at the Club. The family is honoring Helen's wishes to be cremated and buried in Detroit. Her funeral was to take place there on Thursday, Aug. 15.

C-SPAN offers training to club members on using its video library
C-SPAN's video library contains more than 200,000 hours of political programming, including tapes of numerous National Press Club luncheons, and the cable network is holding a training session to show journalists how to access the archives. The program is scheduled to run from 8:45 am to 10 am on Wed., Aug. 21. An optional tour of the C-SPAN studios will follow. Attendees will learn how to search the archives, and find and share clips. One of the most amazing events at the National Press Club, our 5K race, is just around the corner on Saturday, Sept. 7. It's a fundraiser for the National Press Club Journalism Institute. It takes a lot of people and a lot of money to put on a race like this. Let’s talk about the money first. The biggest single cost to putting on a road race in this part of town is the police footprint needed to secure the route and redirect traffic.
