As the 50th anniversary of the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 approaches, the Book & Author Committee will hold a Book Rap featuring Todd Purdum, who will recount the political battle to pass it. Purdum will discuss his book, “An Idea Whose Time Has Come: Two Presidents, Two Parties, and the Battle for the Civil Rights Act of 1964,” and sign copies at 6:30 p.m. July 8 in the conference rooms. Press Club criticizes harsh sentences of Al Jazeera English journalists
The National Press Club on Tuesday strongly protested the sentencing of three Al Jazeera reporters by an Egyptian court and renewed its urging for their prompt release.
