Club member helps launch AFRICA TODAY; New TV channel brings African news To U.S.
National Press Club member Tony Culley-Foster recently helped launch AFRICA TODAY, a new television channel dedicated to bringing news of Africa to the African diaspora and those in the United States who are interested in Africa. The new venture is similar to a successful channel IRELAND TODAY that Culley-Foster helped launched in 2013. AFRICA TODAY held a launch event at the National Press Club in late February that was attended by more than a dozen ambassadors of African nations among other dignitaries. AFRICA TODAY will be carried on the MHz network on cable systems nationwide.

Club urges Saudi government to allow reporter to cover Obama visit
The National Press Club is urging the government of Saudi Arabia to grant a visa to the Washington bureau chief of the Jerusalem Post so he can cover President Obama's visit to Saudi Arabia this week. The journalist, Michael Wilner, is reportedly the only member of the press corps seeking to cover the president's visit who has been denied a visa for it. The White House Correspondents Association and a spokeswoman for the White House have criticized the Saudi decision. Historically black colleges, United Negro College Fund face severe financial crisis
America's historically black colleges and universities are suffering through a substantial budget crunch, Michael Lomax, president and chief executive of the United Negro College Fund, told a March 25 National Press Club luncheon. McManus will give a white-knuckle account of the 1st Infantry Division’s harrowing D-Day assault on the eastern sector of Omaha Beach in a reading from his new book, “The Dead and Those About to Die,” on May 5. The ongoing 2014 Campaign Boot Camp program continues at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 7, with the Federal Election Commission staff providing a refresher on how to find disclosure data on the agency's website. The program is free, but registration is required. The program runs from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and will be held in the Bloomberg Room. National Press Club members are invited to attend a silent auction from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday, March 28, at the National Woman's Democratic Club, 1526 New Hampshire Ave. N.W.
