The National Press Club Newsmakers Committee is preparing a panel discussion on the growing percentage of Americans with advanced online access who have insufficient levels of digital skills. The National Press Club Travel Committee announced the remaining 2014 travel schedule at a reception on April 29. Potential travelers were briefed on each of the 2014 travel events and were able to pose questions to the presenters regarding various aspects of each trip. The National Press Club's Fourth Estate restaurant is hosting Lobster Night, Wednesday, May 29 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Members pay $25 while non-members pay $30 for a steamed 1¼ pound Maine Lobster with coleslaw or salad, and choice of French Fries or Oven Crisped New Potatoes. National Press Club Travel Committee plans annual Civil War Day for June 7
The National Press Club’s annual Civil War battlefield trip will commemorate the Battle of the Wilderness with a visit on Saturday, June 7, to the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park. Press Club members and guests will depart by bus at 8 a.m. sharp from the F Street side of the National Press Building, returning at approximately 5 p.m. There is no charge but NPC members are limited to one guest each. NPC Member Andrea McCarren wins regional Murrow Award
National Press Club member Andrea McCarren was honored with a regional Edward R. Murrow Award this week for her 2013 story about a Muslims of America compound in rural Virginia. Her story will now be considered for a national Murrow Award which will be announced later this year. McCarren is a reporter for WUSA-TV, Channel 9, the CBS affiliate in Washington. This is the third time her work has been recognized with a regional Murrow Award.

SpaceX founder Elon Musk was at the National Press Club on April 25 for a news conference about his Falcon rocket, which recently completed its mission and returned for a “soft” landing in the ocean off Cape Canaveral, Florida. This shows that SpaceX's rockets may be recoverable and reusable which would have major implications for the cost of space missions in the future, Musk said.
