Harkin to unveil retirement, pension legislation at Jan. 30 Newsmaker
Sen. Tom Harkin, chair of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee, will unveil legislation to address America's retirement crisis and to rebuild the country's private pension system at at a Newsmaker news conference on Thursday, Jan 30, at 10 a.m. in the Club's Zenger Room. Speaking with Sen. Harkin will be Denise Bowyer, vice President of the American Income Life Insurance Company, and Mary Kay Henry, president of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). Two Broadcasters to Lead Board of Governors
The Club's Board of Governors has unanimously elected Ken Mellgren as chair and Jeff Ballou as vice chair for 2014. Mellgren has served on the board for two years and was vice chair last year. He was chairman of the Club’s Broadcast Committee for four years and has been a key player in the Club’s strategic planning, its Broadcast Task Force and the History and Heritage Committee. Mellgren retired from the Associated Press Broadcast Division after 16 years in Washington. He previously worked for WRC-AM in Washington, Cox Broadcasting and WJIB i Boston. The next Jazz Night in the Fourth Estate Restaurant is planned for Wednesday, Feb. 5. Jazz Nights, held in conjunction with Blues Alley, are held on the first Wednesday of every month.
