The United States needs more academic rigor, higher educational standards and should demand more of its students, said Oklahoma Gov. National Press Club condemns Turkish police attacks on journalists
The National Press Club criticized police aggression against at least 12 journalists in Turkey who had been covering public protests in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir. Journalists working for a range of Turkish and foreign news organizations over the course of two days during the week of Sept. 9 sustained injuries from rubber bullets and, in at least one instance, from a stun grenade, according to Reporters Without Borders. Members to be asked to approve dues increase, strategic plan at Oct. 4 meeting
National Press Club members are expected to be asked to approve two important items at a General Membership Meeting at noon on Friday, Oct. 4, in the Conference Rooms. After Press Club officers report on the state of the Club, members will be asked to approve a $1 per month increase in dues for most membership categories except spouse/partner, widow, inactive, student and interns, and also to approve the Club's proposed strategic plan, which will set the course for the Club's operations from 2014 to 2018.
