Club Membership Meeting Scheduled for Today
The quarterly Club membership meeting is scheduled for noon today. Lunch will be served. Members will be asked to approve a dues increase of $12 annually and the Club's strategic plan. Communicators Summit Scheduled for Oct. 18
Journalists and communicators will get together Friday, Oct. 18 for the NPC Communicators Summit to discuss how they are using social media to do their jobs. The Communications and Marketing Committee is sponsoring the summit, which is set to take place in the Zenger Room starting with a networking breakfast at 8 a.m. Admission is $30 for NPC members and $50 for non-members. Club members are invited to join “Friends of the Book Fair” in support of the Journalism Institute’s 36th Annual Book Fair & Authors’ Night, scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 19. “Friend of the Book Fair” contributions of $25 will support the institute, which provides training, research and resources for news professionals and scholarships for the next generation of journalists. Exhibit and Discussion of Photojournalist John Launois Schedueld for Oct. 7
John Launois, the late photojournalist whose subjects included U.S. presidents, wars, and the Beatles, will be the subject of an exhibition and book discussion Monday, Oct. 7, at the Club. The reception will begin at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, in the Holeman Lounge and feature a cash bar and hors d'oeuvres. Syrian Refugee Problem Is Subject of Oct. 8 Newsmaker
A club Newsmaker on Tuesday, Oct. 8, will focus on the refugee problem caused by the Syrian civil war. Sen. Robert Casey, Jr., D-Pa., sponsor of Syria Democratic Transition Act of 2013; and Neal Keny-Guyer, CEO of Mercy Corps, the leading responder to the Syria crisis, will discuss the situation on the ground and humanitarian efforts underway as refugees flood neighboring countries.
