Buy your tickets for Gridiron Club's reprise on March 15
National Press Club members can still buy tickets for the Gridiron Club's Sunday reprise, traditionally staged for friends and family. The reprise, sans the white-tie and ballgowns, will be held on Sunday, March 15, in the ballroom of the Washington Renaissance Hotel, 999 Ninth Street NW. A reception, which includes wine and beer, begins at 2 p.m. and the show at 3 p.m. The program will end by 5 p.m. Tickets are $70 each ($55 is tax deductible). Revised house rules posted on NPC website
Last year, the House & Bar Committee reviewed NPC’s House Rules and recommended a series of changes to update and streamline them. The revised and restated rules were approved by the Board of Governors in January, and they are now posted on the Club’s website. While the revisions deleted some archaic rules and language, the substance stayed essentially the same. Provisions governing the use of cellphones, video and speakerphones were added, along with the Club’s policy on under-age drinking. Washington Post copy editor leads crash course on common grammar errors
Bill Walsh, copy editor at The Washington Post, will lead a National Press Club Journalism Institute session titled “The Stuff Your Editor Is Going to Change” from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday, March 6, in the Bloomberg Room. First-ever District Country rocks NPC ballroom
The National Press Club delivered its first-ever District Country live on Saturday, Feb. 21. NPC members, music fans, and locals alike came out to see rising Nashville stars Love and Theft, The Cadillac Three, Trailer Choir, and Tom Dixon. In spite of a wicked snowstorm that started early Saturday morning, a hardy group of country music fans were able to make it through the snow to see some incredible acts in an intimate venue. Breaking news is one of the most important assignments journalists have, and the National Press Club wants to recognize the very best work from 2014 in broadcast and print/online stories. Entries will be judged for quality of reporting, speed and innovation. Particular attention will be given to reporting in the first 24 hours and the use of a variety of formats to reach news consumers.
