Ex-POW Alvarez sees "nothing positive" in prisoner exchange
"I see nothing positive about it," retired Navy Cmdr. Everett Alvarez, Jr., the longest-held U.S. POW during the Vietnam War, said of the prisoner exchange that freed five Islamic terrorists for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. Member Mehmet Saracoglu invites National Press Club members (journalists and communicators) to Rumi Forum's upcoming study trip to Turkey from Nov. 14, 2014 (leaving DC) to Nov. 23 (returning to DC). The trip's mission is to allow visitors to find out more about the media and press freedom, democracy and human rights in Turkey and the wider region, in addition to social, economic, cultural, security and political issues. NPC Member Katy Steinmetz is a reporter for TIME Magazine based out of San Francisco, CA. Formerly with the Washington D.C. Bureau, Steinmetz landed the May 2014 cover with her article, “The Transgender Tipping Point”, featuring Laverne Cox, of Netflix’s Orange is the New Black. Marine follows a hero's journey in new novel by Tom Young
``I will confess to you it's easier to write a novel when you're using a plot somebody else already came up with three thousand years ago." That was novelist Tom Young joking to a National Press Club Book Rap July 15 on how he derived the structure of his new military thriller, "Sand and Fire," from the work of Joseph Campbell, the noted scholar of comparative mythology.
