Prevention of Infectious Diseases Requires Great Care CDC Head Tells NPC Audience
Dr. Thomas Frieden, director the federal Center for Disease Control (CDC) spoke at the National Press Club Tuesday about current worldwide health threats from infectious diseases. He recalled his personal experience of having become ill from bacterial infection while traveling overseas and learning that the bacteria was resistant to antibiotics. Fortunately he was a healthy adult and his own immune system was able to clear the infection. July 20, 1969: Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin become the first and second humans to walk on the moon. Aldrin appears at a National Press Club Book Rap in 2013 and declares that he wants humans to walk on Mars before the end of the twenty-first century. Transportation Secretary: Short-Term Fix for Highway Trust Fund Inadequate
Fast-moving Congressional efforts to rescue the Highway Trust Fund from becoming bankrupt next month will not solve the long-term crisis in funding the nation’s crumbling transportation infrastructure, U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx warned at National Press Club luncheon July 21. CANCELLED: Nigeria President Goodluck Jonathan planned to talk about his country's struggle to contain violent campaign of Islamist group Boko Haram. The luncheon was set for Thursday, July 31.
