'Club MVP' Marilou Donahue, Speakers Committee standout, dies at 82
Marilou Donahue, 82, who brought blockbuster luncheon speakers to the National Press Club, died on Friday, Aug. 8 after a brief illness. Donahue, a member of the Club since 1988 and a member of the Speakers Committee for many years, had a particular talent for luring the biggest artists, politicians and athletes to the Club’s signature luncheons. In May, she organized two back-to-back, sold out luncheons featuring two presidential hopefuls: surgeon and author Dr. Ben Carson and real estate mogul Donald Trump. Nader, Norquist plan National Press Club Luncheon appearance
Consumer advocate Ralph Nader and anti-tax activist Grover Norquist plan to speak at a National Press Club luncheon Sept. 4 on issues where they feel the left and right can come together. Photo entries for the 15th Annual NPC Members' Photography Exhibition are due by close of business Friday, Aug. 15. Entries may be dropped off in the Club's Membership Office. Each member may submit up to four photos. Photos may not exceed 11' x 14” (print and mat). All photos must be securely mounted and matted. The exhibit, sponsored by the Club's Photography Committee, is open to all Club members and is not juried. Happy 100th Birthday Lillian Brown
Former member Lillian Brown celebrates her 100th birthday Friday, and she still has stories to tell. As a make-up artist for CBS News, Brown, a member until 2010, was the last stop for many top newsmakers before they went before the cameras. She did the makeup for nine U.S. presidents from Dwight Eisenhower to Bill Clinton, and she did the makeup before the second presidential debate in Washington between Vice President Richard M.
