The Club reserves the two, front tables for members and their guests to every Luncheon. We want to provide our members with the opportunity to be up close to all of our marquee speakers who visit the Club. The seats at these tables are on a first-come, first-served basis, so make sure you arrive early. The cost of each luncheon is $23 for Club members. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus will discuss the state of America’s sea services and the maritime, budgetary and resource challenges facing the force in the 21st century at a Club luncheon April 30. A spring freelance workshop, co-sponsored by the Club and the Society of Professional Journalists, will offer advice and insight on how to transition into freelancing and keep the assignments coming. The Warner Theater is offering complimentary tickets to members for this weekend’s performances of “Memphis, The Musical.” Tickets are available for the 8 p.m. show on Friday, May 1, and the 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. shows on Saturday, May 2. Laird Anderson, 78
Laird B. Anderson, a 22-year member of the NPC and professor emeritus of communication at American University, died Oct. 14, 2014, at the age of 78. He retired in 1996 after a 23-year teaching career at AU where he was director of journalism programs. Anderson was a frequent contributor to area publications on economic, media and military affairs, including the Washington Post and Baltimore Sun. He was a 31-year veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve, retiring as a colonel in 1989 after earning a Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. He was the co-author of two books on…
