Annual photo exhibit entries open today; deadline: Aug. 16
It's time to enter your best print photos and electronic images into the National Press Club's 20th annual members photo exhibit. Photos and electronic images for the exhibit are accepted today through Friday, Aug. 16, for display in the Club's 13th floor lobby from Aug. 30 to Sept. 27. You can submit up to six entries for the exhibit, two print photos and four electronic images. The Club's Photography Committee stages the exhibit and is seeking top-quality electronic images and print photos representing the members' best work. National Press Club in History: Is it art? Or is it offensive?
In 1932, the Brazilian embassy donated to the National Press Club a 4-ft. x 6-ft. painting of a reclining nude by Brazilian artist Antonio Parreiras. It depicted a Greek courtesan known as Phryne, who lay there with a come-hither expression on her face and little else. It was hung in the Main Lounge, now known as the Holeman Lounge, over the entryway to the bar that leads to the Ballroom. Father of slain journalist to pitch for change in Communications Decency Act at Newsmaker, Aug. 6

A sharp decline in the number of regional reporters and the rise of social media is changing how Washington is covered for local readers and also transforming democracy, according to panelists at an Aug. 1 event cosponsored by the Regional Reporters Association and the National Press Club’s Journalism Institute.
