National Press Club member Larry Blanchard received the highest civilian honor from the Consumer Federation of America (CFA) at the organization's 42nd annual awards dinner June 15. The large, Washington-based consumer group gave Blanchard the 2012 Esther Peterson Consumer Service Award, named in honor of the lifelong consumer advocate who served in the administrations of Presidents John F. The National Press Club’s American Legion Post 20 will conduct a memorial service for its late commander emeritus, World War II hero and NPC Silver Owl Ken Blackshaw at the Club on Thursday, June 21, at 11:30 a.m. Open to all Club members and Blackshaw's friends, the event will begin with a cash bar and lunch. Last summer, HE Ambassador Erlan A. Idrissov invited the National Press Club to the Kazakhstan Embassy for an evening of discussion of the nation’s foreign policy and economic and political developments since the end of Soviet rule in December 1991.
