Dalecki elected commander of NPC's American Legion Post
The National Press Club's American Legion Post 20 elected Kenneth Dalecki as its new commander on June 21. He succeeds John Hurley, who held the post for five years. Dalecki, a former member of the NPC Board of Governors and a 28-year member of the Club, served two years of active duty as a Navy photojournalist in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. NPC strikes gold at New York Festivals radio awards
"The Kalb Report" and "This Just In!" -- two of the National Press Club’s premier programs produced in partnership with The George Washington University Global Media Institute -- won top honors with Gold World Medals at the 2012 New York Festivals International Radio Awards competition. Response by National Press Club members to the Embassy Night at the Kazakhstan embassy on on Tuesday, June 26, has been brisk, but the embassy has said it can accommodate additional NPC members. Kathleen Turner, iconic film and stage star and chair of Planned Parenthood's Board of Advocates, will discuss reproductive rights and the state of women's health at a National Press Club luncheon on Thursday, Sept. 6. U.N. spokesman: One in four Afghans is a returning refugee
Khaled Hosseini, best-selling author of "Kite Runner" and spokesman for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), said that the 5.7 million refugees who have returned to Afghanistan since 2002 constitute a quarter of the country's population. Hosseini, an Afghan refugee to the United States at age 15, spoke at a June 20 Newsmaker event. He described the refugee situation within Afghanistan and in neighboring Iran and Pakistan.
