What is genius? Walter Isaacson knows. He is the biographer of Albert Einstein, Benjamin Franklin, and most recently, Steve Jobs. On Tuesday, March 20, he will join Marvin Kalb on the next edition of "The Kalb Report." Amnesty International calls Afghan refugee situation 'hidden but horrific' crisis
Half a million Afghans displaced by war and struggling to survive in makeshift shelters have been let down by their government and international donors "that look the other way", according to a report released by Amnesty International at a February 24 Newsmaker. T. Kumar, director for international advocacy for Amnesty International USA, said the Afghan government estimates that more than 40 people have frozen to deaths in camps across the country. Theodore Adamstein, founder and executive director of FotoDC and FotoWeek DC, will describe this year's photo competitions, activities, and events at a luncheon meeting of the NPC Photography Committee at noon, Thursday, March 1, in the McClendon Room. FotoDC's many events include the National Cherry Blossom Festival photo contest, which runs through April 15. Winners will receive cash prizes and publicity. March 1, 1909: The Club moves to the second and third floors of historic Rhodes Tavern at 15th and F Streets NW and is there until 1914. Several years ago, members of the Club, including past president John Cosgrove, were present at the dedication of a decorated fire and police callbox at the corner, noting that the now demolished Tavern was the second home of the National Press Club.
