From one Prez to another: Virtual Obama greets President Hamrick at fun-filled inaugural
National Press Club President Mark Hamrick wants to bring President Barack Obama to the Club for an event in 2011. During his inaugural dinner on Jan. 29, Hamrick came close to achieving that goal. WASHINGTON, Jan. 28, 2011 -- The National Press Club condemns the Egyptian government for cracking down on the rights of reporters and Egyptian citizens to freely share information about events in their country. Amid violent street protests in Cairo, numerous reliable reports indicate that reporters have been detained, beaten or had their equipment confiscated. Book of Note: Member Connie Lawn's updated autobiography You Wake Me Each Morning is available to borrow from the Eric Friedheim National Journalism Library at the National Press Club. Lawn launched the book at the Club in April "with many timely stories and lessons to inspire all journalists, especially in this new age." Lawn began covering the White House and the world in 1968. In 2006, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Press Club of New Zealand.

Embrace The Google: Social Networking Classes in February and March
Classes on social networking will be offered Monday, Feb. 7, Tuesday, Feb. 8, Monday, March 14 and Tuesday, March 15. Each class is one hour and 15 minutes. Sign up for as many as fit your schedule. Actor Richard Dreyfuss urges civility in politics, life
American civilization is in a precarious state, the political environment has never been more toxic, and there is a dire need for more civility in our daily life, actor-activist Richard Dreyfuss said Tuesday at a Newsmaker event at the National Press Club. Updating The Press Freedom Cases Of Four Journalists Honored By The NPC
The NPC recognized World Press Freedom Day on May 3 with a news conference updating the latest developments in the cases of four journalists who have received one of the Club’s highest honors, the John Aubuchon Press Freedom award. The information from that event is the focus of this edition of Update-1, hosted by Broadcast/Podcast Committee member Ruqaiyah Najjar. Colombia VP urges U.S to ratify trade agreement
The U.S. should ratify a free trade agreement with Colombia that was negotiated in 2007, but still awaits congressional approval, Colombian Vice President Angelino Garzon said Wednesday at a Newsmaker event at the National Press Club. Garzon's statement came a day after President Barack Obama announced that he intends to continue pursuing pending trade negotiations with Colombia and Panama.
