Islam scholar advocates merging Islamic values with democracy for success in Tunisia
Tunisia represents the best hope for a successful transition to democracy in the Arab world, provided it succeeds in merging secular democracy with Islamic values, according to Radwan Masmoudi, president and founder of the Center for the Study of Islam and Democracy. Former Washington Post editor to offer career coaching sessions
Jackie Jones, a former editor at The Washington Post and lecturer at Penn State University, will offer “spring cleaning” for careers in a four-week coaching session that starts April 5. In sessions for up to eight people, career counselor Jones will discuss planning and assessing goals, updating plans and getting re-energized. The group will meet from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, April 5 to 26, in the Bloomberg Classroom. The cost is $80 for members, $200 for non-members. Iran expanding influence in Latin America, think tank scholar tells Newsmaker

National Press Club to Iran: Release blogger, his mother and all unjustly confined
The National Press Club today called on Iran’s government to set free a jailed blogger, his mother and all journalists and other citizens who have suffered retaliation merely for exercising the basic human right of self-expression. In 2010, the Club awarded the Iranian blogger Kouhyar Goudarzi its John Aubuchon Press Freedom Award after Goudarzi had been put in Teheran’s notorious Evin Prison on trumped-up charges.
