The National Press Club wants to honor your best work on problems facing the elderly with the Joseph D. Ryle Award for excellence for writing on the problems of geriatrics. This award honors excellence and objectivity in coverage of the problems faced by the elderly. It is named in honor of Joseph D. Ryle, a longtime National Press Club member who left an endowment for the award. The award for print/online work has a first-place prize of $750. Entries must be postmarked by April 2. The Spouse/Partner membership includes nearly all the same privileges offered to all the other categories of membership, including use of both restaurants, the fitness center, the library and the business center. Salt Lake's Alta Club joins NPC as a reciprocal club
The Board of Governors recently approved The Alta Club as a reciprocal club. The Alta Club is located in the heart of Salt Lake City and is 30 minutes from a number of world class ski resorts including Park City. The clubhouse features 20 overnight guest rooms. Egyptologist who found cancer in a mummy to explain what ancient remains add to modern science, April 23
Dr. Salima Ikram, head of the American University in Cairo's Egyptology department, will speak on Egyptology's contribution to modern science and will address the state of the nation's antiquities post revolution at a Newsmaker press conference at 4 p.m. Monday, April 23. Ikram was in the news recently because of her role in the discovery of prostate cancer in a 2,200-year-old Egyptian mummy, which suggested the genetic origins of the disease.
