Bob Woodward, the Washington Post investigative reporter and editor whose work on the Watergate scandal led to the resignation of an American president, has been selected as the 2012 recipient of the Fourth Estate Award, the National Press Club’s most-honored prize. NPC, Freedom House plan annual survey release on World Press Freedom Day
Freedom House and the National Press Club plan to join forces on World Press Freedom Day, May 3, for the launch of Freedom House's annual survey of press freedom around the globe. The event will take place in the Press Club's Holeman Lounge on Thursday, May 3 at 9:30 a.m. Admission is free. A continental breakfast will be available. National Press Club journalism awards entries climb 26 percent
The National Press Club journalism awards contest has seen a surge in entries this year thanks to a collective effort to raise the program's profile. The contest drew 177 entries this year -- up from 140 in 2011. The most dramatic increases were in the competition for the Joseph D. Ryle Award for Excellence in Writing on the Problems of Geriatrics and the Ann Cottrell Free Animal Reporting Award. The first Breaking News competition also drew a healthy set of applications. Louis Armstrong moves to top of iTunes Jazz after release of Club recording
Louis Armstrong climbed to the top position in the jazz section of iTunes the day after a recording of what is believed to be the music legend's final trumpet performance was released at a National Press Club news conference on April 27. Armstrong, widely acclaimed as the best trumpet player of all time, staged his final concert at the Club on Jan. 29, 1971, about five months before his death.
