Pulitzer Photos Added to NPC Walls
The NPC has added three new Pulitzer Prize-winning photos to its walls. Two photojournalists recently donated the three photos for the Club's permanent collection. One is the photo that Carol Guzy, a Washington Post photojournalist, presented to the Club in November. It shows a toddler being passed through a barbed wire fence into the hands of his grandparents at a refugee camp in Kukes, Albania. His grandparents, who had no idea if their family was alive, reacted with unbridled delight. The other two Pulitzers were taken and donated by Patrick Farrell, a Miami Herald photojournalist.…

Welcome BBC Russia Service Reporter to the NPC
The National Press Club welcomes nedw member Ilona Vinogradova of the BBC's Russia Service. Ilona grew up in Tallin, Estonia, where she published her first story at age 15. She graduated from Moscow State University's faculty of journalism in 2003 and has since worked for various radio and TV stations and Izvestia, the national newspaper of Russia. Since joining the BBC five years ago, she has made two radio documentaries, one of which was a trip to Tuva with the daughter of Nobel Prize-winning physicist, Richard Feynmann. NPC Member's 100th Book is Published
Member Don Philpott, editor of International Homeland Security, has published his 100th book. The two-volume Guide to Federal Terms and Acronyms is published by Rowman and Littlefield. The guide is a 1,200-page glossary of the most common key definitions used by the federal departments and agencies. It is one of four books that Philpott has had published this month; the others are Special Needs Families in the Military, Combat-Related Traumatic Brain Injury and PTSD (part of the Military Life series), and The Telework Manager's Toolkit.

The Nieman Foundation's conference on secrecy and journalism will be webcast live in the NPC's Eric Friedheim Library and the Bloomberg Classroom at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Dec.16. Board Approves 2011 Budget With Goal of $1.54 Million Profit
The Board of Governors unanimously approved on Dec. 13 the 2011 budget that aims to generate $1.54 million in profit, build up reserves of $1.5 million by Sept. 1 and reduce long-term debt. "If we can meet this budget, we will have made substantial progress toward our long-term financial goals by generating about $4 million in profits over three years," Executive Director William McCarren told the board.
