School for disabled children will embolden Afghans, founder says
The state-of-the-art school that Operation Exceptional Child/Afghanistan plans to build for disabled children in that country will "embolden Afghans to stand up against insurgents," said Debbie Smith, founder of the organization that will undertake this mission. Smith spoke at a April 11 Newsmaker event. Smith is also executive director of PATHS (Parents and Teachers Helping Students), a 501(c)(3) organization that advocates on behalf of students with physical/cognitive disabilities. Annual Members' photo exhibit set for September
It's time to start shooting those great photos for the 12th Annual National Press Club Members' Photography Exhibition, slated to run during the entire month of September in the Club lobby. The exhibition, sponsored by the Photography Committee, is open to all Club members, who may submit up to four of their best shots. Each photo may not exceed 11" x 14," and prints must be securely mounted and matted. Photos are due at the Club between Aug. 8 and 19. Complete exhibition rules will be published in the coming weeks. Gen. James L. Jones (ret.), former national security adviser for the Obama administration, will address a National Press Club luncheon on Monday, May 16. Jones, a retired four-star general, will discuss strategic imperatives for the volatile Middle East, focusing on Iran, Libya, Egypt, Israel, Palestine and northern Africa.
