National Press Club Members are invited to a free screening of the documentary “Lt. Dan Band: For the Common Good,” at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, in the ballroom. Head of African Diaspora Summit to explain event, 3 pm May 18
Amb. Mbulelo Rakwena, coordinator of the 2012 African Diaspora Summit, will discuss preparations for the event at a Newsmaker at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 18. The summit, which will be held in South Africa, will bring together African diaspora leaders in government, business, academia, arts and civil society with their counterparts on the African continent. Team of homeless runners to compete in 5K
A group of runners from the organization Back on My Feet will compete in the National Press Club 5K on Saturday, June 11. The nonprofit promotes self-sufficiency for the homeless by engaging them in running to build confidence, strength and self-esteem. The team members come from an organization called Clean and Sober Streets, which provides free, long-term residential drug and alcohol treatment and rehabilitation services. Entries are due by Friday, Aug. 19, for the 12th Annual National Press Club Members Photography Exhibition. Entries may be submitted beginning Monday, Aug. 8, to the Club membership office.
