Club softball team improves to 7-1 after doubleheader win
The National Press Club softball team knocked off WRC (Channel 4) and Albritton (Channels 7 and 8) 17-5 and 11-10 over the weekend. The winning rally to beat Albritton started with two-outs and nobody on in the final inning when the Club trailed by two. Ted Costigan and Sarahanne Driggs were both perfect at the plate in both games of the double header. The Club is now 7-1 at the halfway point this season, which takes this weekend off for Memorial Day.

Cartoonist Bill Rechin dies
Bill Rechin, a syndicated cartoonist and member of the National Press Club, died Saturday, May 21, of complications from esophageal cancer. He was 80. For many years, Rechin drew the "Crock" and "Out of Bounds" comic strips for King Features Syndicate. During the renovation of the Press Club in 1983, he boosted the morale of the membership by drawing cartoons lampooning the Club's distress. His work hung in the Reliable Source for many years, and the Club made him an honorary member for his service. Union leader promises to fight states over worker rights
AFL-CIO President Richard L. Trumka lashed out at politicians in Wisconsin, Ohio and a dozen other states who he said "are trying to take away workers' right to organize and bargain for a better life," at a May 20 National Press Club luncheon.
